Right now doing internet marketing for local offline businesses is a very lucrative business.  All the big internet marketing gurus are pushing products to help people in this area for a reason.  There is just so much business spread throughout the world in local markets.  These local offline businesses don’t know a lot about how to market their business online.   They probably have one of those old (if not fugly) information websites that looks like nothing more than a fancy business card.   They need some internet marketing help and you’re just the person to help them.  The problem is how do you introduce yourself to your prospects?  How do you market to them?

Local businesses are approached all the time with people trying to sell their ‘web’ services, promising Google rankings and charging them to improve their ‘design’.  Most of these companies don’t know what they’re doing.  These businesses could end up spending $20,000 and get a terrible boring template type website that is impossible to rank because there is no search engine optimization done.  They say they do, but the proof is in the pudding.  So they’re ripped off all the time, happens over and over again.

This story goes around and a lot of people are either immune to typical marketing about their website, or they simply aren’t aware of  what exactly is happening in the online world within their particular market.  Many of them think the internet isn’t for their business, who would be looking for kitchen cabinets in Toronto online, why would they come to my website?

These businesses need your help as you can see, and you can market to them in an unobtrusive way and have them calling you and writing you $5000 checks to help them!

The Offline Marketing Solution

So how do you approach these businesses with something new and fresh, something that will keep their attention, and not get associated with the ‘bad’ typical marketing they’ve gotten over the last couple years?   Something they can find useful and engaging, something that demonstrates you actually know what you’re talking about?

Creating a custom website video review of a prospects site is an amazing way to do all of those things.  They are personal so people will already appreciate that part, they are informative, people like to know how they could get more business, and finally they can see with their own eyes what you’re talking about because you have shown them stats, not just made up numbers.

The Creation Of Local Video Method

ecover 200 Website Video Reviews For Local Offline BusinessesI decided to give this a try and came out with some amazing results.  Not only did I get a fantastic response rate, almost everyone loved my videos even if they had no interest in spending money on their website right now.  I bet they’ll keep me in mind when they do make that decision!  I’ve had almost 60% of my prospects respond to my videos, and it doesn’t take me long to make them.

So what exactly is Local Video Method?  I took some ideas I picked up along with way from various people including James Schramko, Ryan Deiss, Andy Jenkins and Kyle Tully.  I know there are plenty of others using video but this is where I drew from.

James Schramko has a blog (www.internetmarketingspeed.com) post back from 2008 that talked about doing this very same thing, though his may not have been as elegant as mine are now, that is where the original idea has come from.

Andy Jenkins launched his coaching program The Video Boss this year and had some AMAZING pre-launch videos that were very informative for two reasons, they were great examples of good videos and the content covered how to create them.   I took a lot of pointers from those videos.

Ryan Deiss uses a lot of video for his products, he keeps his videos VERY simple, which is quite the opposite of Andy Jenkins, Ryan says the ugly duckling videos convert better for him, but maybe he’s just not as good as The Bossicon smile Website Video Reviews For Local Offline Businesses

Kyle Tully got me thinking about it again in his Consulting Tycoon coaching program, and with the combination of those, I came up with the Local Video Method.   A combination of simple yet sophisticated and professional.

Kevin, Your sample video is clear and concise using your LVM program — it looks great! But, if I purchase the program, do I have to be an IM wiz to critique websites? Is this program only for IM people who already know how to do SEO, etc?

    Kevin Reply:

    Hey Jeff,
You absolutely do not have to be an IM Wiz. You could know very little about SEO or how to build a website. The video doesn’t go into great detail, I cover off some VERY basic stuff that most offline local businesses miss completely and don’t understand. You could critique someones website and cover off the basics:

    Is it easy to navigate?
Is there any call to action
Are the page titles keyword optimized or do they just say ‘company name – about us’
Do they have meta descriptions optimized (you can easily see all of this in Google by searching “site:domain.com”
How many people search for services they offer (use Google keyword tool)
How many backlinks do they have, is the anchor text optimized for keywords

I can cover that without going into too much detail. Most people want to see the value in it, not how to do it. So I explain a little about why their current site is probably invisible, and how to fix it, and then demonstrate to them, just how many people are searching online. Once they’re ready to go, I can outsource web development or the actual seo work and simply manage the project. I don’t need to be the mechanic, I just need to know how to drive.

I outsource the actual SEO grunt work to something like SEO Partner, or if I’m designing a website for them I use SuperFastWebsites. I leverage those services and move on to more videos and more clients.

    Hi Kevin,

From your experience, what would you say are the most profitable prospects to go after for an recurring income?
ie., industry, annual sales, and why?

and what prospects will provide the smallest returns?
ones that already have a website or google place listing on the first page?…

    Hey Chung,

It’s a very wide variety that you can go after, I don’t have a list of ones that are better. They’ll be quite a bit different depending on each location. People liked to talk about Dentists a lot, but there are so many more. The best customers are ones you can bring value to, so looking for high transaction value and life time customer value.

eg. If I brought in new leads to a customer and they made $6500 per transaction, then that would be a great client to work for, I don’t have to bring in piles of leads to help them create a substantial profit from their online presence.

You can tell by looking at their website whether they need your help, it’ll almost always be quite obvious they don’t have any direct marketing aspects to it. So ones that you see who have used the services of say someone like yourself, would probably mean you could move onto someone else.

I support local video method through my help desk http://www.devcourthelp.com regardless of whether you’re in super fast results or not.

    Cheers,

    Hi Kevin,

    Thanks for your response…

Hope you don’t mind another question…

I looked at your sample video review and was wondering if the creation of the intro, closing, and any editing can be outsourced?

So All I would have to do is just do a video site review (since I don’t enjoy editing…really bad at it), then once the slides are completed, I integrate that with the rest of my video.

Also..you’re business website http://www.devcourt.com/ doesn’t seem to be showing any header images on chrome and firefox…just thought you should know..

    Kevin Reply:

    Hey Chung,

(tardy response, I apologize). I haven’t personally outsourced any of it. The intro/closing you only do once so not much leverage in outsourcing that. As for the editing etc. again, I personally haven’t done it. One reason is I like to do the review and know a little about the prospect so I can speak to them about their site. The editing I don’t find to take too long, it doesn’t have to get fancy, they’re more impressed with the information and connecting than they are with production quality.

So you do video review (you’ll get better as you do more, can’t not get better) and then attach your intro/closing (which you do one time).

re: devcourt.com – yah I was having some issues with .htaccess files and wordpress, got it all sorted now. thanks.

Last question, wondering if you recommend any bonuses that would go with/compliment your Local Video Method in regarding to Offline Business Consulting?

I highly recommend Kyle Tully’s consulting Tycoon. It was one of the places that got me started. I never bothered with others because it was great! Not the cheapest, but you pay for what you get. :)

    Hey Kevin,

got a copy of LVM and gotta say..nicely done. Plus the webinars are very useful so far.

I’m going over the Jan 2011 webinar right now and I’m wondering how come you choose .com instead of .ca if you’re trying to rank within Canada?

a TLD for the same country you’re trying to rank for helps with seo no?

    [Reply]

    Kevin Reply:

    Hey Chung

I don’t think they have any more ‘power’ when it comes to ranking. The only thing the local TLD does it automatically identify it as specific country. When you have a .com, .net, .org you can go into Google Webmaster tools and tell Google what country your site is in. So I go in, set it to Canada and that’s no different then a .ca.

Kevin, the form that prospects fill in after they’ve watched the video.

Is it an aweber form? a plugin in or it is part of the video?

Let me know if there’s any resources you can direct me to get this done quick.

    Thanks again.

    [Reply]

    Kevin Reply:

I have used Contact Form 7, it’s a WP plugin.

To be honest, I don’t think anyone has ever filled that in. I leave my contact details, and it’s either contact over the phone or email, but never through that form. So I wouldn’t worry too much about it.

  13. Michael says:

Kevin- In researching companies I’m finding that the contact email address is “info@business.com”, instead of the actual owner/decision maker.

Any ideas on getting around that? Is this where you would drop off a DVD? How f”fancy” do you get with the DVD.

    Thanks!

    [Reply]

    Kevin Reply:

    Hey Michael,

You’ll get that a lot and often without calling them and asking questions to try and get a particular persons e-mail address, that is your best bet. Send it off, then follow-up with a phone call a day or two later, simply asking if they had received an email you had sent in.

I’ve asked “I sent in an email and was wondering if I could speak to whomever reads those”. Or just ask if they had received it. The conversation can vary, but you may never be able to get the exact person you want (you may not even know who that is, you could have it wrong). So best run with what you have then follow-up with a quick call. The purpose of the call is ONLY to ask about receiving the video, you’re not trying to sell them on the content or your services etc. You just want them to watch it.
